I am running XP pro with firefox 3.6.12. Someone accidentally closed firefox and lost my session. Earlier that day, I erased all my private history from firefox, so the tabs that were open are not in my history. Firefox has since been opened and closed multiple times. If I run a system restore to yesterday's date, will my firefox session, including all the old tabs, be open? Are there any reasons not to run a system restore? Obviously, I would backup the documents I have modified since yesterday. Anything else I need to know about running system restore?

System Restore is for correcting issues with system files only. It will not change any personal files or restore browser sessions or history. The only way I know of to do what you want to do is to use Wondershare Time Shuttle, which automatically takes a snapshot of your whole system daily and also on demand. I use it myself and it is pretty remarkable, but it wouldn't be able to help with your present problem of course.
