If I uninstall Dell System Restore does that take out the System Restore that I thought came with XP sp2? I use the System Restore software often, so don't want to take it out if it is the one I use. I cannot tell by looking at it.confused

If you want to uninstall Dell recovery, make sure you have or make the recovery cds first.

Thanks for the reference. I now see that the XP restore is completely different than the Dell restore.

Would you agree that I might as well uninstall the Dell system restore because when I first got my laptop, I put a 2nd partition in it, and from the remarks of that URL you sent, it doesn't seem likely that the restore will ever work if I had to use it because of the partitioning I did. I did have Dell send me all the original software CDs, including XP. What do you think?

Yeah if you already partitioned the drive you wiped the Dell restore option anyway. You have the XP reinstall CD and the drivers CD so you are fine. Go ahead and uninstall.

You might want to look at this software: http://www.majorgeeks.com/PC_De-Crapifier_d5223.html

you can get rid of some other bulk from Dell if you like. If you have any questions just post back here.

Oops! I can't uninstall Dell System Restore. It is listed in add/remove programs, but no Remove button appears when I click on it. Does that mean I cannot remove it ever except as a clean XP install--which takes way too long to put back together again?

Why wouldn't they want you to uninstall it?

Try this program. It will find the uninstall string and try to remove it. It could be that the program is missing some parts and you might have to remove it manually from the Registry.
