If mb has 4 ram slots and can take a total of 16mb, can you use 2 (8 gig) sticks, or

If I'm looking to build an amd system and purchased a motherboard with 4 memory slots and the specs for the motherboard state that it can take a total of 16 gigs of ram, do I have to use 4 (4 gig) sticks or can I use just 2 of the 8 gig sticks??

With out knowing the exact motherboard its hard to give you the correct answer, but generally yes, that should work.

Well for one can you post what kinda mother board you got.So we can take a look at it.Like the link where you got it from or if you got it out of a store or what ever.16gigs is a bit much if you ask me only if your doing some major computing like cgi or what ever most ppl go with just 8 gigs i can fit 16 gigs in my mob but i went with 8 likehttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/image.php?u=21371&dateline=1187672377 Colemanguy said yes you can fit a 4 gig stick in the mob if they make the kind for your mob but they cost alot.give us your mob specs so we can look for you

Well, I'm actually not the one building the computer. I know he was thinking about using the 6 core amd cpu though.

16 gigs is not a bit much, its fine.
