This is not a cry for help but just a curios thought.

i have got System Mechanic Pro it is a good tool now i have learned to use it (with help from my local computer geek) but what i find curios is if i run it and clean all unnecessary files it does the job well, but yesterday i decided to run CCleaner straight after and that found plenty more it's a bit annoying that such an expensive tool can be outperformed by a freebie.

    any thoughts on the matter?????http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/4.gif

One Geek's unneccessary file is another's life saver.

for example are the file left over when Word crashes unneccessary - they can help recover a lost document.

I visited another customer worried about spam, yesterday. His ISP was passing on over a dozen emails a day marked **SPAM**.

When we reviewed these mails he identified several as 'known and wanted'

I get about one such enquiry a week now and my ambition is to find one where I can set outlook (xpress) to reject email marked spam. I haven't yet.

The moral of all this is that any automated system is suspect and should be checked by humans. No two will produce the same outcome.
I expect if you ran CCleaner and SM in reverse order you would find the same effect.

Thank you both I'm not trying to hijack your thread, Bill - Honest.

I'm trying to make the point that automated systems can easily produce too many false positives.

In the case of (registry) cleaners for instance, windows comes with and will reload if deleted, many file types, not currently in use by a given system. Some cleaners (artificially) boost reports of registry errors by listing these.
