I am trying to ste up an FTP site with IIS but i can't connect to it with another comuter.
I'm thinking something is blocking it,
Perhaps Norton antivirus 2006 or windows firewall?confused

    My hard drive if FAT
I'm using IIS 5.1 on windows XP sp2
I'm also using a wireless connection to my broadband router.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Can you access it locally?
You need to set your firewall to allow incoming connections on the ftp port (default port is 21).
An easy way to determine if the firewall is blocking it, is to turn off the firewall and try again.

If the above does not solve the issue:
Where is the computer you wish to connect from located? On the same lan as the ftp server or outside this lan?
If it is on the outside, you need to set up port forwarding on your router.

    Yes.
Tried this, it did not work.
Windows protection center seems to indiacte tha the firewall is on even if I turn it off.
I tried to connect from another computer connected to the same router via lan cable, also tried it form my computer at work, it did'nt work in both cases.
    How do i do this?

Also tried port 80 for web site witch does'nt work either

The ftp site used to work, but I'm not sure if it stopped working after I installed Norton antivirus or sp2.

Maybe you have more than one firewall running? If you have your own firewall, make sure windows firewall is always turned off. (Turn them all off for testing). Norton antivirus 2006 doesn't have a firewall, but if you suspect it has something to do with it, disable it too.

You only need to set up port forwarding if you want to connect to your server from outside your network. Consult your router's manual on how to do this (might be called 'virtual server' or something like that).

Also, can you access the server locally when you use your computer's ip instead of 'localhost' or 127.0.0.1?

I have looked at the settings for my router and have enable FTP and HTTP and also enabled routable protocols and I can now access both sites from the other computer.

I'm not sure if it will work on a computer outside my network since I have not yet had a chance to try it, but when I do, I will post bak with the results.

In these cases it's almost always firewall or router settings. But since every router is different, i can do no more than provide some generic instructions and tell people to read the manual.
You may still have to setup port forwarding to access the sites from outside your network. But, that shouldn't be hard to do.
Glad you can access your server now :cool

I'v tried it at my local library it didn't work.
I will look again at the router settings and I will post back

Thanks for, at least, setting me on the right track!:)
