I'm a beginner and i need some help!

Hello all, i have to say, last time i came to the forums everyone on-line was really helpful, so thank you to anyone and everyone willing to help their fellow pc genius (or dunce in my case! )

Anyhoo, my laptop has just gone crazy and won't reboot. I keep getting a blue screen saying that there has been a problem and windows has shut down to prevent damage, run dskchk /F

What the hell has happened? How do i fix it???

Hi Dave post the model of your laptop and the versions of Windows your using,also describe the problem in a little more detail when exactly in the boot process does the bluescreen happen for example,what we're you doing with your laptop before it stopped working?

Have you tried safe mode yet tap F8 as the computer is booting?

 

Hey Rikki, thanks! It's a Dell Inspiron 1300. When i switch it on, the windows symbol comes up with the little bar like 'Kit' from Night Rider!, then it goes to the black page with white writing as if i were pressing F8 to access safe mode. From there it gives me thirty seconds to choose whether to start normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, from recent safe restore point etc.... i have clicked all of these options and it then takes me to the blue screen. I'll be honest, it's my sister-in-laws machine so i'm not sure what she was doing, i'm the 'techno whizz' of the family (apparently) and it's got me stumped. I would like to run the disc check in msdos but i can't get to write the commands!! any ideas?? :confused

 

Oh, and it's running WinXp sorry!

 

Yes the laptop sounds fine the harddrive may be on its way out though if the laptop is old,you need a windows xp cd if you have one follow this guide,it looks more complicated than it is
