I am running Windows Vista Business 32 bit, Intel Xeon 3.4 GHz processor, 2046 MB RAM on a Dell Precision 670. I keep getting this message when I open IE, explorer and control panel:-

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    Runtime Error

    Program C:\Windows\explorer.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I get this when I start Internet explorer, windows explorer, control panel.

I can run any other program fine.

If I leave the error box open I can still use ie and explorer in the background and if I open extra windows, eg. mydocs, more error boxes open up. As soon as I click the error box, explorer closes.

I do not have google toolbar or common name on my pc. I know that two of the solutions are to remove these.

I have scoured the net for help and Microsoft have been useless in fixing apart from saying to reformat and reinstall everything! Stuff that for now!

I installed a Star force driver recently for my disk drive as I kept getting messages telling me to update it. I am not sure if that caused the problem, could be coincidence!! I have since removed the driver but the problem remains.

I have run spybot, adaware, tuneup utils, regcure, ashampoo. They have found nothing suspicious.

I removed all instances of commonname.com from the registry as I was told this could be causing the problem.

I am totally lost for a solution and I know you guys are s*** hot at helping people so I thought I would ask for help here!

    Thanks in advance

    Sarah (and my naughty PC)

    Hi Sarah,

If you have any toolbars installed (Google Toolbar), uninstall them and see if that stops the runtime error.

first they already said that they dont have google toolbars

second have you tried running ccleaner if not run the registry/issues(not quite sure which this version goes by one or the other) tab on the left and see if that could solve the issue for it

here's the link if u dont have it already

Okey Dokey my fellow PC junkies.

The ccleaner found a few things and fixed said problems. Reboot - still get runtime error. Blast!

Ran BHO thingy and the only things listed are:-

    1. Skype add on (Mastermind) - This has been on for a while so dont think that should cause a prob, ill have a go at deactivating though and see what happens.

    2. SACert Class - a sys32 soft ahead cert

    3. SSV Helper class - a java file

    and lastly

    4. Windows live sign in helper

I will be back shortly with updated news after de-activation (only plan to try skype and live sign in, dont really want to be messin with sys32 or java stuff!

    Thanks again!

    Hi Wolf

Yep. I ran the tune up utils registry cleaner and then the regcure.

I deactivated the plug ins but the problem will not go away. I am thinking maybe I will need to do a reinstall??!?

Just wanted to enable the ad ons one by one to see which one it was and it was SA Cert Class SoftAhead Inc

Just thought you might like to know for future reference.:wave

Correct. No more error pop ups! I re-enabled the add on I mentioned - SA Cert -

and the error messages came back so that one was the culprit so it is forever disabled!

    Au revoir!
