    ...
copy 3 folders direct to a DVD or CD, no ISO file, no zipping, just a straight quick copy.
Verification of copy would be nice also.

Any programs you can suggest that will do this?

I already have looked at lots of backup programs and own Acronis True Image V10.

If you mean being able to add the entire folder at once, without having to add each file in it individually, I thought all burning programs would do that. Ashampoo Burning Studio 5 certainly does and I think Nero Burning Rom 5 did that too. Is that what you meant?

Are you after something that automatically backs up? I would have thought that it would be more or less manual anyway if you are backing up to CD or DVD rather than a network or second installed HD.

Ditto for Roxio Easy CD Create, verification included.

Thanks chookers, Bill_Marsden and Goran.P for your replies. :major

I just want to copy my "Documents and Files", "Useful" and "Downloads" Folders, their sub-folders, and all the files therein. No zipping, no ISO file. Basically a simple copy.

My recent copy of PCUtilities computer mag (UK,USA and OZ), #84, p 41 has a review and free download of "Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007". :cool;)

I'll be giving that a try later on today. Thanks again. Bazza

Yeah, and that's what Roxio ECDC6 does.

ISO is only if you want to sent it over as a single file, it exists, but is invisable. A data CD is a ROM hard disk, no big deal. Just Drag and Drop within the burning software, pretty much exactly as you describe.

Drag to Disk (another Roxio Utility) is even easier, but requires Drag to Disk to read it. With a data CD, it's files and folders.

I use it a lot to make a utilities disc, with Adobe and all the other stuff I think of as necessary when I build a computer. Where you might have problems is if the folder is bigger than the CD can holds, but then you can use DVD.

Sorry if I came across cross, it was puzzlement as to why you thought it wouldn't work. The software is ancient, dates back to Adaptec, CD Creator Classic (that's the name of the package).

Why not use Windows Backup? With your simple backup requirements, it will serve the purpose just fine.

Windows backup can go gloriously wrong, I'm told - plus I personally don't think it's as quick or easy to use. Also, you don't end up with separate files that can just be browsed which many people prefer, just the one file with bkf for an extension. I think Bigbazza would be better using something like the Ashampoo he has.

I've used Windows Backup many times and it's never gone "gloriously wrong". And, you can see a list of files in your backup so that you can select specific files to restore. Now, I will say it takes a bit of time working with it to figure out how the certain options such as incremental and differential backups work, but I doubt that's it's much more difficult in that respect than other backup utilities.

Thanks all. keep up the suggestions. :D
I used Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007 from the CD that I mentioned earlier.:cool
8½ megs in size. One of the simplest programs I have used. Certainly better than most backup programs I have tried.

Only snag so far, was when I tried to validate the backup and it crashed telling me that my Burner or DVD medium was not compatible.
I checked heaps of files in the backup and they all worked.
I used a different brand of DVD+R to what I usually use so who knows, Ashampoo might be right.
Next trial will be with my DVD+RW disks to see if the re-format and write works.

A couple of files did not backup but these were *.dat and *.log files "in use".
No problem as these are not essential for my purpose.

Ashampoo Burning Studio 7.01 is at MG at http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4851.html
The fastest way to create & copy your own data, video, audio and multisession CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs,
    but is Shareware.
Mine was a slightly earlier version, free on CD.;)

I think it will suit me fine for what I want for a weekly backup of my "critical" files.

My network is my favorite backup medium. I have about 20 Gig of data that I want to keep, a few are massive ISO files (around 3 Gig in size) that Win98SE chokes on with a "parameter is incorrect" error. My work around is to use the DOS prompt under Win98SE, which doesn't have the problem (go figure). Other than that I use CD's, which can only hold around 700Meg each, but work just like any other disk system. I'm not positive yet, but I don't think XP has any problems with large files.

I use ntbackup.exe, have also heard it is problematic from many reliable sources, just been lucky I guess. If I were to purchase Acronis True Image would be my selection, I heard their Disk Director was good also.

Thanks again for the continuing suggestions. :)
I also bought Acronis True Image v9, and a free update to V10, a while ago.

The Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007, that I got for free on a CD, leaves it for dead in simplicity. I did my weekly backup of 3 Folders yesterday in no time, and did it how I want it.

I have not tried it for a full backup yet. I will try it next time instead of ATI v10, to see the comparison. ;) Bazza

Always verify your backups...ntbackup or not, none are to be trusted.

I do.;) That is one reason I do not like Acronis True Image (ATI), as it takes much much longer to verify than it does to write. confused

There has to better a faster way to verify backups. I have an idea but am not a programmer so I don't know if it is feasible. Gonna make a suggestion to ATI, to see if it is feasible. Bazza
