im back and my defrager hates me.....

my computer defraged a bunch of files with ultimate defrager on auto setting and it fagmented a crap load of them beyond belife one reached over 5000 fragments and i cant get any program to let me defrag them

i keep trying power defrager because it works pretty well but i cant get it to defrag the files it comes to them then says after a few seconds invalid perimiters(as the reason for not defraging) does any one know how to make it so that i can allow it to defrag them without harming my system(by which i mean leaving the system files alone for the most part)

any help would be much apreciated a tyvm in advance to who ever helps me in this never ending war with my fragmented hard drive

p.s.: i don't know if it matters but i have almost 50% of my hardrive reading as fragmented!cry

I would also run CCleaner before doing this too, then you don't have to waste time scanning a bunch of temp files, cookies and the likes. Here is a useful guide on how to cleaner your PC and in what order. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106650

well tyvm it works well with the disk keeper light it works so well that if i wasnt poor i might buy full version lol

but tyvm its working great on first sweep got rid of like 35% of fragments(thinks to self finaly piece of crap starting to defrag right)

 

Are you running short of space on the drive? That could be a reason why the fragmentation is not getting cleared out. Run a disk cleanup to clear up some space and then run a defrag with the free trial version of Diskeeper 2009. You can use it for a month as a full version (it deactivates after that unless you buy it), so use it. The advantages of the newer full versions of Diskeeper are the much faster defrag algorithms compared to DK Lite, and the ability to defrag the system files, which DK Lite cannot. Also, you can simply leave it on auto and let it process the drives....run a boot-time defrag finally, just to wrap things up.

 

Also,occasionally,I will dump my restore points if i cant get a good defrag.If you are having no other problems other than defrag issue and you are confident your sytem has no other issues than defragging,go to system restore,under system tools,click system restore settings,click "turn off system restore" and then hit apply,this will dump all your restore points.....as soon as it is done clearing restore points go back into system restore and click button "create a restore point" and click next type in something like defrag and then click create....after this is done run Ccleaner and then defrag your system using Diskeeper lite...
I repeat...."only dump your restore points if you feel confident that your computer is running good other than the issue of defragging"
and dont forget to create a current restore point after dumping previous ones.and reinable system restore by unchecking "turn off system restore"
