IM DEAF, no really cant hear anything!!

Ok all u tech heads. I know as much as the normal gal about puters. I was just given this Compaq tower from a friend. Everything runs good except I cant hear any sound. I checked the control panel sounds and there is NO audio device listed so i selected Windows default for the sound scheme (didnt work) no playback no sound recording. So i checked hardware on device manager and under audio there are audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, media control devices and video codecs thats it..am I missing something????? I must cause i cant hear crapola!! LOL I could sure use a lil assistance from u brain-ni-acs!!! Thanks just email me at lykes_2_have_fun@yahoo.com

I must ask the obvious first, do you have speakers plugged into the computer? It also bothers me that you couldn't find any type of sound device/drivers listed in device manager. It would also help to know what OS you are running.

 

so, in device manage there is something listed under "Sound, Video, and Game controller"? (at least that's what it's called in mine). what about your volume, controller, is it muted?

C:\WINDOWS\SNDVOL32.EXE <-- is pointing here

of course my computer is windows me, but should be the same.

on mine i have to have "wave", and "play control" volume, on for sound to come out.

and last, which color are you plugged into?, i believe it should be the green connector, but i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong. - sos
