    I would also recommend CCleaner

Just select registry then scan for issues.

This will remove leftovers for you.

Here's the thing. Registry cleaners are nice if they're good at it, otherwise they can cause more problems then they fix. CCleaner is free and good at what it does but you will have to set it up correctly so it doesn't delete things you want to keep. Tuneup Utilities has a good registry cleaner but its not freeware.

Removing leftover uninstall files is a program specific thing in most cases. You uninstall then look in the Program Files Directory to make sure it gone, if its not delete it manually and run a registry cleaner.

If it Graphics card or hardware drivers try Driver Cleaner Pro. You have to be careful what to tell it to clean because you might have nvidia drivers for you motherboard chipsets as well as your graphics card. For ATI there is a cat-uninstaller for removing traces of those files.

For other apps there is a free program called "Windows Installer Cleanup", its good for uninstalling things that didn't uninstall correctly as long as they were originally installed with windows installer in the first place, again becareful what you choose.

A good way to find free registry cleaners and things that can mess up your PC if they're not well designed, is to visit reputable PC Magazine sites and search for them there. PC World or PC Magazine should have quite a few reviews and downloads of tools you can use and alot of them are free. It can be as simple as searching "freeware" on their site and finding articles that relate to what you need.

Also the very website your on is a Downloads site, with software that is tested and malware free http://www.majorgeeks.com/

Earl, CCLeaner as mentioned by WildWolf is a pretty safe cleaner that many use including me and not had any issues, it also allows you to backup registry keys that it deleted just incase it does pick a wrong one and stops any application from working, BUT I have never had this happen in the years I have used this software.

Revo also mentioned above is a great app.

Personally I would choose those two as many other Registry Cleaners can go too indepth and clean out or list too many keys that could cause problems.... cleaning the registry is not to be taken lightly as its a core part of keeping the OS working, corrupt or delete wrong keys and at worst your looking at a repair/re-install.
