I have Windows XP with SP2. Two days ago I downloaded Grisoft AVG7 with virus protection and email scanner.

Seemed like it was doing a nice job scanning incoming emails. A friend sent an email with an attachment. After viewing the attachment a warning came up in the bottom tray that read "email scanner is not fully functional."

I have Outlook Express for me email. I dont thing the incoming email is being scanned anymore and nothing I have done seems to help.

Any suggestions to restore the full scanning function?

Sounds like you may of downloaded the trial version, not the Free version of AVG.

Mine did the same thing just a littel while ago. Open up the Control Center and click on Activate. For some reason every now and then it deactivates.

Now THIS is where it gets interesting. I opened the Control Center AND did click on Activate. NOTHING HAPPENS!

Like I said earlier, this all happened after opening an attachment in an email from a friend who swore it was safe.

Also I have run CCleaner, Spbot SD, McAfee Virus and AVG7 Virus and detect no problems.

Very, very strange. This scenario should be interesting to all geeks I would think!!!!!!http://forum.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Have you ever heard of "spoofing"???
. That message may not have come from your friend at all. Some malware knows how to disable AV and other security programs. Never open or run any attachment unless you are ABSOLUTELY SURE of it (yes, even .ZIP or other archives, image files, etc.). Always write back to your "friend" and ask if he actually sent the attachment and if he's sure it is clean. In fact, don't even open any message that has an attachment until you've verified it with the supposed sender. Even then, I save all attachments separately to my Quarantine folder and run my checks on it directly.
