I'm new and really need help!!

I've been reading forums and other things and I can't understand the computer-language everyone is using. I need a codec program and a dvd burner. All I want is for someone to tell me what I need to open movie files downloaded from a .torrent site, open the files and burn a dvd for my grandkids to be able to watch movies on the dvd player. If there is anyone out there who has ever beenin my position(a newbie), PLEASE HELP Thank you in advance.:cry:confused

 

Minimum you needs a DVD burner and the software (usually bundled with it Nero, Sonic). The software usually gives you options on the way to format your DVD but making a "Video" DVD is usually the way. Follow the directions and it will ask which video file to add.

The file you downloaded also needs to be a video file such as an avi file or mov file (the file name has a .avi extension or other depending on the format)

Thanks, Dins I'm sorry I took so long to answer, but I had my grandkids for a while and knew I couldn't concentrate on what you were trying to tell me. See, I had DivX and it worked for a while, until I had to reformat my computer. (Someone helps me do this) When I tried to use DivX again it would not work . Some of the files could not be opened, and I wasted a lot of DVDs trying to burn some that it would open and then they would not play in my DVD player. I don't have a program to erase the RW discs, but a friend does. (MEdia Player won't do it, I can't even burn a DVD from there, I can watch it though. It will let me hear and burn CDs though). Anyway, the divx player won't recognize the erased disc as being an enpty disc. Do you know of any programs that will let me do this? ( erase, burn, open files,) that is easy to use, or is my best bet to go to one of the movie sites and purchase and download their stuff? I'd rather get it free, of course, but will buy it if I have to. I don"t need the top of the line stuff, just something simple and easy. They really are quite a risky business, those torrents. You do know that? The more a person knows about security issues the less likely he/she is to use torrents. I wouldn't dream of letting that stuff near my PC...

 

I can't understand for the life of me how anyone can burn a DVD without installing the hardware... like a DVD writer...
when I had a DVD reader only,
forget about it!...
so I spent $84 at Wal-Mart and installed a DVD writer...
to replace my CD writer...
then I need to use Nero,,, but there are other ways to burn...
Nero works for me,, so I don't fix it if it ain't broken.

Bottem line is that it's Hardware, (DVD burner), it's not software...
and then follow the foolproof installation instructions.

If somebody can teach me how to burn a DVD without the hardware...
