I've been experimenting with a catalog program that allows you store images and text for any entry. I was going to ask what program you use to convert bmp images to jpg but I came across this on-line one.

    Free Online Image Converter
    http://www.coolutils.com/Online-Image-Converter.php
Here you can convert most commonly used graphic image formats - BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF or ICO. Our Online Image Converter is quick and reliable, and what is most important quite easy-to-use.

Example: you need to convert a jpg file into bmp. Use the “Browse” button to select the source JPG file on your local PC, then click the “Convert to BMP” link. Done.

    Convert to BMP
    Convert to JPEG
    Convert to PNG
    Convert to GIF
    Convert to ICO

It only does one file at a time (doh) so I am still interested in a bulk re-sizer (preferably) that I can download that converts bmp to jpg.

    Any suggestions? Bazza

Yes my fav app XNView does both batch convert and also batch transformations at same time, which means it will adjuct images brightness, colour, resize etc etc

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/XnView__d4974.html

once installed, browse to folder of images to convert and highlight them all > right click one of them an choose Batch Convert > Choose Output Dir if needed to be different, then choose Format ( and you have loads to choose from ) IF you then also want to resize them all click the Transformations Tab and then click Image > Resize then Add, in the right top box click Resize then a new list of options opens up in the Parameters box, choose yours size > then click GO.

    Thanks a bundle Halo.:major
I've been scanning limited edition stuff into a cataloguing program for insurance purposes, but the files have been huge, in relation to jpg. Hence my question. ;)

Just downloaded XNView and will try it when I logoff.
Some extra info that might prod others to try it.

XnView is a utility for viewing and converting graphic files. Just some of the features

    Main Features:
    - Import about 400 graphic file formats
    - Export about 50 graphic file formats
    etc., etc., etc.

Check out Halo's link for a full description of what XNView will do. Bazza

Just converted 34 x *.BMP files (Size 32.8 megabytes) to 34 x *.jpg files to 2.24 megabytes in size. About 6% of original size with little loss of quality.
Attached is an Addams family file converted to *.jpg as an example. Bazza

Glad you like the app Bazza, I find it very good in batch conversions, you can also add a little sharpening to the conversion process to, to aid the little loss of quality, just practice with sample images first to get good setting. ( Transformations > Filter option )

Many options this app has, so worth exploring them, as it will do screen captures, scanning via your scanner, aquire images from your camera, create slideshows, print multiple images as thumbnails so liek a contact sheet etc etc etc
