    Hi,

I am currently building myself a web site which will consist of a lot of images. I remember a long time ago I read about software that would remove the mouse Right click COPY and the Ctrl + C copy functions. Unfortunately I cant remember where I saw the software or who made it.
Does anyone know of this or similar software, ideally free, that I can use to stop visitors to my site copying the images.

    Thanks

Usually its javascript. Anyone wanting your images can disable java to get around it. There is no easy way I know of. Once you put it out there, it can be stolen.

Thanks Major Attitude, I guessed that that would be the truth of the matter.

    Frodo,

The right-click is a bit of a waste of time and often makes the visitor more determined to get your pic. They can also simply view source and see where to locate your image.

If a visitor can 'see' any one of your images in their browser then it has to have been downloaded to his/her PC, so they can also look in their cache.

An alternative to the right-click and one that uses no JavaScript or special code is, for example, a table with your image placed in the background of a cell and then a transparent.gif where the usual image would be, checking that the width/height of the trans.gif is the same as the image you are displaying in the background.

What happens is the visitor right-clicks on the image to save it and ends up saving the trans.gif, but they don't always realise they've done so until they check their images at a later date. So maybe call the transparent.gif something suitable to the image it is shielding so the thief doesn't realise they're saving nothing!

Again, they can view source and find the true location of your image but it's irritating and less provocative than banning the right-click with a clever message.

    slot :D

Something like this program may be an option you want to try (click on image protection in the left hand menu). There are others out there that do similar you can find via google but I happened to be reading about this one yesterday. :)
