I am including the PrtScn in the next post as it was a careless omission for which I aplogize.
    Acronis TI Home 2010
The Prt Scn shows the root of my question.
I want to do a full system backup each week and to have each displayed separately in 'Computer'.
I think I select "new destination."
When I try to select a name for the destination it says,"it exists and do you want to write over it."
Do I need a different name each time?
    Do I need to tic,"generate name " ?
My backups, take an hour but seem ok, yet the destination is inconsistent and disheveled.
    Thank you
P.S. Macrium and Win 7 are ok but Acronis is worth learning -I find the helps inadequate and support non existent so I will be diligent about notes here.

    Hi Peter

If you are creating a new backup each time then yes it will want to overwrite the already created one, what I tend to do is to schedule a full image backup this way you can have it keep 1, 2 or as many as you want of the backups or have it remove the oldest one, in say you have three backups and then create a new forth then the first backup would be deleted.

    This keeps you current.

You can schedule images for various days, I do a Sunday and Wednesday ones, that have a 2 image backup max so nce the third ones is created the first (oldest) is deleted.

for your True Image 2010 the manual is HERE and the scheduling section is number 13

Yes that should help in creating a new image file and not overwriting the previous ones.

Hope I got the gist of your post and question right, I'm now on True Image 2011 and its very different but very good GUI, once you have spent a bit of time learning its new options.

The box is asking you these questions -

    - Do you want a complete backup or just make a backup of changes since your last backup?

    - Which drive do you want to save to and what name do you want to give this backup file? Here you can accept what is offered, or type a different name, or use the Browse button to find an earlier backup you want to overwrite by using its name again.

TBH, I would strongly advise against using scheduling options until such time as you are completely confident about creating backups manually.

    HTH :)

I will certainly read the manual regarding this feature and do what I can on my own.
I noticed you can type a name which I was not aware of. I will try that as perhaps that will allow me to send the full image each week to Computer, yet be able to discern one from the other and avoid overwriting.
It is my understanding that overwriting either disguises the first or removes it.
I think I tried to type before but the name was rejected;I will persevere.
Between typing and 'generating a name', I think i will be able to keep about three full images that I can tell the difference one from the other.

I think you both swore off 2011, but seem to be happy with it now that you have conquered it.:wave

I dumped it and decided to stay with 2010, but can't now remember exactly why :-o

Dont think I swore off it, but didnt like its initial few builds (thought speed was an issue in the time taken to backup a Full Image), but in Update 1 build 6696 its better, but the GUI takes a bit to get used too, but a manual and scheduled options are I think easier.

I do think 2010 is a great and stable version and no need to update to 2011.

That's what I have settled on, three images taken manually at roughly two week intervals, named whatever_A.tib, whatever-B.tib and, you guessed it, whatever-C.tib. By browsing on your prtscrn to and selecting the oldest of the three it automatically overwrites it.

Pleased you are finally tackling ATI peterr, it is very reliable, and reliability is what you most need in a backup program.

That was the reason I dumped it David, thanks :)

I burn some of my images (belt and suspenders) but lately most of them go on a 500GB portable external drive. When I create an image, I include the computer name and the date. With 7 computers of ours and 2 from my nephew it is critical that I locate the correct image for each computer and then to use the most recent.
    Example of a name: sparky_2K_Feb20_2011
sparky is one of the computers and sparky has a 2K, an XP and a linux install!
