Image Transformation

Does anyone know the effect used to turn the image on the right into the one on the left?

If you're looking for a single filter that does that I doubt you'll find one. Looks like someone took some time in Photoshop. That's not just one single effect.

Blue Filter

It might also be sometyhing simple like adding more Blue to the image. PaintShop will do that and even good old ever reliable and totally free IRFAN Viewer could well achieve it if you hit Shift + G and add the blue from there. Cheers

It's more than a color change - the background's been cropped out and replaced.

Decent job but you can tell the guy had trouble with the hair (hair is VERY hard to crop out) and he fudged it by making some hair on the right side of the image.

 

If he used Photoshop, he probably used the Magnetic Lasso Tool to trace out the image, then seperate it from the back ground. Then removed all the color information, and replaced it in different saturations and hues. Then I'd bet he bumped up the contrast quite a bit, as the left image is a bit sharper than the one on the right... and then collaged the rest of the background.

either that, or he used one hell of a layer mask :O

 

Image Change

A relook rather than a cursory and you are right. It looks as if he has lifted the principal player out pasted him into a blurred different background as a different layer cloned some hair missed out on the liftout combined the lot together and run a slightly transparent blue wash over the lot. Not hard to do in PSP but probably a helluva lot easier in Photoshop. I fiddle with a digital camera and should have looked harder.
