I need a free and minimalistic Image Viewer that supports animated GIFs. Current image viewers are so much more than just viewers. Something simple like Windows Picture and Fax Viewer in Windows XP would be ideal.
Nexusimage would be ideal but for the slow rendering of animated GIFs. They display at a third of the actual speed.
Windows Media Player 11 opens animated GIFs in a window the size of the image (ideal), but doesn't allow to view the next or previous image.

I'm familiar with FastStone Image Viewer - it's not minimalistic.

    Thanks DavidGP.
Now this is minimalistic! And it supports audio and video files.
Hopefully the author can improve the rendering of animated GIFs.

    Most welcome,

I'd give the author an email, was some contact details on their page, have found in the past many devs are open to suggestions and I tend to mention what site/forum I'm from.

    Done.

On a side note... why does Windows Media Player support animated GIFs (and other image formtas), but Windows Photo Viewer doesn't?

I kinda think its due to being just a basic photo and in the past a fax viewer, but depends what Windows version you using as in Windows 10 the new Photo Viewer/Catalogue app will play GIFs fine, actually not a bad way to have them in a catalogue/gallery.

I fail to understand why Microsoft removed the ability to display animated GIFs in the successor to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, Windows Photo Viewer, it's illogical, realy stupid.

I just found JPEGview on MajorGeeks. :)

Pity about the name because the program can be used to view JPEG, BMP, PNG, WEBP, TGA, GIF and TIFF images - and animated GIFs display perfectly.
It's also portable and the archive includes both 32-bit & 64-bit versions. ;)
