    Hello
When you receive a notice that Macrium or Acronis has an update, to ensure that the rescure disc works, should you update for security reasons or not.
When I check my recue disc I hope it is enough that it finfds the backup but would be disappointed if, when I try to recover, it failed.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Very good question...

I'd imagine that you wouldn't necessarily lose any functionality because of the lack of updates - most program updates address security issues and specific problems, so, if your backups are working well as they are, you may not need to update...

I'd suggest updating the programs (especially if you understand the reason for the updates), and continuing with your normal backup routines...

In other words: don't take your quarterback out if he's winning...;)

    The word security jumps out.
I just got through with a chat session with Acronis.
I would like not to rock the boat and keep things as they are because, as I understand it, if I update, I must recreate a new rescue disc. They recommend the one from their site. I am not lazy just not very secure with my tech ability.
If everything is working ok, I would like to keep things as they are but not at the risk of a security breach.
They confirmed, as did the forum, that a difference in drive letters does not matter b/c the Linux kernel and Windows see it differently and it is the ability to locate the backup with the rescue disc that matters.
I hope staying as is will not compromise security but I think it more prudent than updating, new back ups and a new rescue disc.
Sometimes you sharpen the blade too much and you get cut.:wave
    Thank you for your help.

As a long, long time user of Acronis, which has a very patchy track record with updates, my advice is if it's working don't update either the program or your rescue CD.

Updates of Acronis and similar programs have nothing at all to do with security. They are attempts by the authors to fix various problems users are experiencing - usually failure of the rescue CD to recognise certain drives.

I NEVER update Acronis. When I find a build that works, I stick with that because not all builds work equally well.
As a matter of course, I remove (uninstall) Acronis from the computers and only use the rescue CD to run the program and create/verify/restore images. If the Acronis TI program is not installed on the computer, then it is not a security risk! ;)

Not only is it not a security risk but I would think you have continuity using one source for all the functions.
    Great news + thank you.
