I keep getting the error message "IMAPP performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." Under "details" it says "IMAPP caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at 000: " then lots of numbers. This error message appears after starting IncrediMail e-mail software. This program worked fine until I installed Spam Inspector after which it started with this error message every time. I have uninstalled Spam Inspector and wiped every trace of it from registry. I have reinstalled the latest version of IncrediMail but I still get this error message when starting IncrediMail. Tech support at IncrediMail have hit a dead end and don't know what to do other than tell me to reinstall Windows which seems a little drastic to me.
I really need my email program back working soon. Thank you for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Patty
Specs: Win 98SE, 512MB RAM, Celeron 533, 20G hard drive
I am using POP3 protocol only.

Try this You ´ll have to uninstall incredimail.

(If you dont want to loose your messages, before uninstall it go to C: Program files/Incredimail/Data/Identities
and copy all the folders and paste it in the desktop.)

After uninstall it go to "Windows", and then to "Prefetch", and delete all you see with the name "Incredimail".
    Then reinstall the program

(To recover your old messages and addressbook copy the folders you pasted in the desktop and paste it in
    C/Programs files/Incredimail/Data/Identities
and replace the folders there, with your old folders.)

    Hi Birds3Chas
When cleaning the registry you must also DELETE THE KEY [ ELIA SHIM- PROTECT] As this must be removed before incredimail will install again correctly

    Please explain what "Prefetch" is

    Hey jujet84,
After I uninstall IncrediMail are you saying I should go to C:\Windows and delete all IncrediMail files I see? Then go to "Prefetch"---I don't know what that word means. Is that another word for the registry? Should I use a registry cleaner to get rid of all traces of IncrediMail before I reinstall it?
Thanks for such a prompt reply!
    Patty

Sorry for not replying sooner Patty chk here
Here are the instructions to get rid of Incredimail completely. Please export a current copy of your registry to desktop for backup just in case.To access the registry, go to start/run and type in regedit and press the enter key. Once registry comes up, go to file and export and a box comes up, give it the name registry and the date, and choose desktop at the top and save. Now you are ready to follow the instructions below.

To delete the registry keys for the Incredimail program:
    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
For each key that you need to delete, locate the key, right-click the key, and then click Delete:
Under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key, delete the following keys:
    \.ima

    \.imf

    \.imi

    \.imn

    \.ims

    \.imw

    \Applications\Impcontent.exe

    \Applications\Incredimail

    \Incredicontent

    \Incredimessage

Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key, delete the following keys:
    Software\Classes\.imc

    Software\Clients\Mail\Incredimail

    Software\Elishim\Protect\Browser (remove the Incredimail value)

    Software\Incredimail

Software\Microsoft\Direct3D\Most Recent Applications\ (remove the NAME value that points to Incredimail.exe)

    \Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Incredimail

    Delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu\Programs\Incredimail key.
    Quit Registry Editor. Reboot

    Hi Birds3Chas
"Prefetch" Is a term used by windows to make your system quicker. You may at some time when your sitting quite hear the hard drive working hard and you are not doing anything. Well what is happening is windows works out and learns from you what you will do next and every 3 days or so rearranges the "Prefetch" Folder to make things and applications quicker when in use. So all you have to do is to go to the prefetch folder and delete all things relating to increadimail. But as i said in a earlier post you must delete the registry key [ ELIA SHIM- PROTECT] The best way to do this would be to download a copy of reg cleaner from here
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html
Install it and you will find the registry entry under the software tab just locate it and delete it while you are in this section just make sure anything to do with incredimail is deleted
When done you can now install incredimail again and it will work no problem

    I don't see a Prefetch folder

    Hello Nick,
Sorry, but I can't find a Prefetch folder. I am looking in C:\Windows for it. I did do a search for "prefetch" and found 3 files: wmsetup.log in C:\Windows and system.dat also in C:\Windows and sysdm.cpl in C:\Windows\System. Should I delete these?
Thank you so much for your help.
    Patty

    Hi again Patty
You must be looking in the wrong folder?
Just click on my computer on the desktop then open up LOCAL DISK C
There you will find the folders DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS-PROGRAMME FILES-WU-TEMP FILES-AND WINDOWS. Just open windows up and in alphabetical order under P is the prefetch folder it is in here that you are to delete all files relating to incredimail
Do not delete the three files that you mention
Any further queries then just post back :)

    No Prefetch folder---really

Nick, I promise I am not crazy. Under C:\Windows I see alphabetically among other things the folders "Options" "Patty" "PIF" "Printhood" "Recent" "Samples", etc. Only 3 folders starting with "P" but no Prefetch folder. I am using Win98SE---would it be called another name? Thank you for your patience.
    Patty

Patty, you're not crazy - you haven't found it beacause Win98SE doesn't do Prefetch. So disregard that one part, but the other info in this thread regarding Incredimail will still apply. :)
