import fail

i tried importing my favorites (bookmarks) from IE into FF, but when i looked, it only had those from A-L! that is, the "From Internet Explorer" folder has a dozen links and a few subfolders in it, but only those which come early in the alphabet.

the subfolders, otoh, seem to have everything they're supposed to have, but that might be b/c they had so few entries apiece. the root dir had a whole lot of stuff in it; is it possible that FF limits it to 20 items or so? that at least would make more sense than some arbitrary cutoff at a given letter.

i suppose i'll reattempt the transfer, but first i'd like to know what went wrong. i didn't see any "transfer interrrupted" or anything error msg. in fact, i think there was a clear "transfer complete" msg, so i was quite stunned at all these missing items.

 

Best thing to do in firefox and IE is too for you too do is click on each link and in the address bar copy and past all the links from IE to firefox as far as i know the is the only way.

But there might be another look to see if there any import add-on's for firefox.

 

If you imported into Firefox directly from IE, that may be why. Try exporting your Favorites to an HTML file and then import to Firefox from that file.

 

@mdonah - so you're telling me that FF's "import (from IE)" tool is buggy to begin with?

i saw the HTML option, but i don't see what adding an extra step solves. FF is just gonna load from that aniwes so the same problem seems likely.

i figured the HTML snapshot is just for if u want to save a copy long-term (why they use HTML for this is a bit puzzling to me, btw).
