IMs out of the blue.

hey fellow geeks.
how many times have you been Instant messaged by someone you dont know who found your SN on MG, and wants to ask you a question? and most importantly, do you mind it?

 

While I do get this alot, it's not been from MG that I know of. I usually get alot of questions about Photoshop & such. Yes sometimes it gets on my nerves, but for the most part I don't mind. I like to be able to help someone out if I can.

There wasn't an option for "constantly".

I put select IM contact information in my profile at the site I moderate, so I get a LOT. Rarely if ever do I consent to let them add me to their buddy list, though...that's the last thing I need, random people I would never talk to in real life knowing when I'm online so they can bug me.

I don't mind it, exactly...talking to people is fine. It's just that I don't want to become lifelong friends with the majority of people who IM me.

One of the reasons I removed mine. I'd suddenly get this IM from someone who I have no clue who it is, simultaneously try to figure out their problem and who they are, sometimes ending up solving their problem, sometimes telling them to ask someone else.

 

0 because I am never on IM.. I hate the damn things nearly as much as I hate the phone.

 

then i'm never pm'ing you again...especially after 8pm.

I turned the damn things off couple of years ago. All of 'em. Pesky bassids.

Same reason why I only tell a few VERY close contacts my mobile phone No. These services are there for my convenience, or they're gone!


If I have any pests, I just refer them to Kodo!

 

I'll get IM'ed semi-often from other msg boards. I don't mind it though because it's usually locals asking about car stuff...besides I don't know enough to help troubleshoot people's problems on MG. LOL

 

I've never been IM'ed out of the blue in that situation, but I've received a few PM's. I'm with Phantom on the whole availability of my cell number.

 

No one ever tries to seek me out. I realized a long time ago that if I want people to talk to me, I have to initiate the interaction, or else there would be none.

On icq, few people send me messages.
My e-mail accounts are just full of "click this link to confirm your e-mail address" type mail.
My cell phone only rings when my girlfriend or my dad is calling.
I rarely get PMd on here.

To clarify: MANY people have access to the necessary info needed to contact me via the above mediums.

I do get IM'd out of the blue every once in a while, but not often enough to bother me. It's not from this site though, I'm active on a few other message boards, most of them having to deal with music, gaming and movies, most of the time it's people wanting to trade files or know where they can get a trailer to a game or movie or something like that.
