    Hmmmm....
Is M$ in bed with Orbitz and Sovereign Securities?

My hotmail account continuously receives a stream of spam from Orbitz and Sovereign Securities, despite the fact that I have them in the personalized filters section of hotmail options.
I even checked to see if the filters were case sensitive by changing the filter keyword to 'overeign' and 'rbitz'.
    I still get them.

I know the personalized filters are working, since I no longer receive mail with the word 'penis' in the title ;-).

    Just curious.

    heh,

i don't know MS's policy exactly with those two spammers, but i do know that they make money off of your email account none the less. When you sign up for a hotmail account, they sell your address to spamlists - one of the routes for making money off the free site, in addition to acting as inticement to purchase their upgraded accounts.

How do i know this? I've set up an account with them before that i never gave out to anybody, nor anywebsite, nor did i sign up for any of the optional newsletters, and yet somehow those spammers found me. makes you wonder, doesn't it...

    I sign up for nothing.
I use the hotmail account as a dumping site for when I don't want to give out my 'real' internet address.
F'rinstance, when I wanted to change the address on my Newsweek subscription (the paper one, not the electronic version), I did it over the internet; it asked for a return internet address. I give my hotmail address for such things.
    This is what I block:

    Filters:
1 Deliver mail that contains debt in the subject will be automatically deleted.
2 Deliver mail that contains penis in the subject will be automatically deleted.
3 Deliver mail that contains sex in the subject will be automatically deleted.

5 Deliver mail that contains financ in the subject will be automatically deleted.
6 Deliver mail that contains credit in the subject will be automatically deleted.

9 Deliver mail that contains overeign in the subject will be automatically deleted.

For some (nafarious, I assume) reason, spam from Orbitz and Sovereign Securities come through, but ads for penis enhancers don't.
That's why I asked if Orbitz and Sovereign had some relationship to M$/hotmail.

    Random name generators.
I saw some raw, unfiltered data from my alma mater once ( I knew the IP manager), lotsa random names sent to names that were obviously based on pemutations of known addresses.

Yeah, I wondered why it had been 'moved' to lounge, as that's where I had posted it to in the first place.
    I've noticed this before.
