Hello there. I have had this problem for a few weeks now and am tearing my hair out. I bought a 250GB Maxtor external HDD drive Model number: 6L25ORO to use as a HDD for my PS2. I was advised to transfer the ISOs from my laptop or PC onto my HDD so as not to tire the laser on the PS2 out. First attempts with a cable did not go well so this morning I bought a 3.5" LAN HDD enclosure. I first tried to connect using USB and it made the little sound to say it was connected but then after a few seconds it makes the sound to say it isn't connected anymore and then it comes up with the message: A problem occured during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly. I cannot find the drive anywhere which is a right pain. If I connect using the LAN cable I get more success and can even get onto the HDD if I format it. Unfortunately I cannot format it as it has to be in the correct PS2 format so that the PS2 can recognise it. Winhiip does not recognise it either which is obviously the main problem! I can however access the enclosure on the LAN cable if I go to http://storage. Does anyone have any ideas before I chuck the whole lot out the window???

I'm not sure what you were trying to tell me from that link. Isnt that just a link saying about a ps2 HDD?

I understood that you bought a 250GB Maxtor external HDD drive Model number: 6L25ORO to use as a HDD for your PS2.
If you scrolled to the bottom of the page, it says----

    * Makes loading games from USB hard drive incredibly simple
    * Practically limitless hard drive size - USBeXtreme supports hard drives from 40Gb and up
    * No modification of your PS2 required
    * USBeXtreme works with completely standard PS2s via the USB port, meaning your Sony warranty will remain intact
    * USB Plug-and-Play simplicity - once you have installed games on the hard drive, simply plug the hard drive into your PS2, load the USBeXtreme software and you're ready to go!

Sorry if this is not what you need.
Perhaps someone else from majorgeeks can help, if you wait a little longer

Thanks for the help mate appreciate it. I think that is talking about USB extreme which is a seperate program for the PS2. I am talking about connecting the HDD to the PC so that I can transfer ISos to it.

I was hoping someone with more experience with ps2 might come along and help, but as they have not , yet, I found this link from sony, regarding usb devices, which I would suggest is similar to a usb hard drive attchment.
    http://uk.playstation.com/help-supp...xperiencing-problems-with-Memory-Stick-Duo/?/

Now, if you attatch your hard drive via usb to the PC, then it should pick it up, and open it, and you can drag and drop stuff onto it.Then I would suggest trying the sony method for usb sticks.
If it does not find it, it could have a faulty connection, as I have had usb sticks do that.If the lan connection picks it up, and you can format format it, preferably Fat 32, as this is an easier system to convert, and try the sony method.
Sorry, I cannot be more help, just might be worth a try.
