I have been playin wow and my computer an a random time will either freeze ill here a beep then it will look like it boots into safe mode and i get a popup saying windows driver has stoped, or ill get a bluescreen saying there is a driver or hardware problem. I don't think I have a graphics problem because the game renders fine and it will run without any lag just when i click on stuff it will happen randomly. I really need help!!:(

    Specs

    Intel celeron 2.5ghz
    768mb of ram
    intel extreme graphics 845gv

its a 4-5 year old computer

I can list lots of problems.

Budget chipset that uses compter ram to make up for its shortcoming.
That means your 768 of ram is more like 512 , not enough. I upgraded to 2 gigs of ram last pc to play wow at high resolution.
Intel chipset is a joke in graphics.

Im sure you think the game runs good, but trust me, you have not seen how good it can lok. Update your drivers, though can not be 100% sure 4-5 year old software is supported. Either way, your having a driver issue:

Sounding like hardware, specifically memory on a peice of hardware, tough to diagnose and a lot to try. Remove ram and reseat it. Same with video card. Blow dust out while your in there. If possible, borrow a video card and memory and try swapping to see if error goes away.

i think it may be my ram because when i only had 256mb and play the game it was just slow as hell nothign wrong with it

Be sure, see if your friends is compatible and try it. I mentioned reseating it because they can become loose, even from dirt, plus dirt contributes to heat, which can be another cause.

im thinking about junking the computer and getting a new one. What would be cheaper and still would run wow fine I built a dell online for like 500 or just buying a barbones and going from there with just what want or need

and i would swap out graphics cards or memory only 1 reason none of my friends have thier own computers unlike me the whole family uses one comp and they can be a bit strict when it comes to soemthing of the whole familys

Dude. Your not building a gaming PC for 500 bucks. Try http://www.abspc.com
A good processor costs more then 500 dollars. Look into the Intel Core 2 chips and an Nvidia card. If you can, try and drop about 1,000 into it. If your computer lasts 4 or 5 years, its worth it. Get 2 gigs of ram too.

Trust me, you only think it, looks and plays good based on what you have seen so far. If you saw it run on my 24" widescreen with max resolution and everything on, you would faint ;)

The computer store I go to for my LAN parties, sells this setup (with case, HDD, etc. for 1400. It scores over 30,000 (tweaked) in 3D Mark 03. I have seen this setup run at over 900 fps on Doom 3, so I can highly recommend it (although that setup ran slightly different memory timings 2-2-2-6 at 2 Gig).

Cost is $736.94 (before shipping) if ran in SLI, but only $583.95 if ran with one video card. You should have no problems running WOW with everything turned on high.

    Motherboard
    Processor
    Memoryx2
    Heatsink/Fan
    Video Card(s)

Throw in a cheap case, and decent power supply (500 Watts for single Video Card, 750 Watts for SLI) to finish off the rig. Just use your existing Hard Drive, DVD/CD drive, floppy, etc. If you need help assembling it, take it to near the nearest bestbuy and pray that the "geek squad" doesn't screw it up.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, it can crash and with 256 megs, probably guaranteed. XP uses 256 megs by itself. As mentioned, your main processor also steals some, so technically, your already using virtual memory (hard drive acts as memory but costs performance) when you boot. With XP and that processor, you should have 1 gig. Ill bet if you got 1 gig and a better video card, it would work well for you for another year or two, but your still talking 3-400 dollars.

Good prices, its always here to find a balance between performance and speed, but that would work well.

so should i buy another 512 stick and a different graphics card

I would fully suggest a complete overhaul, but if money is tight, I would suggest 1 gig of corsair xms memory, the aforementioned graphics card, and look into a new processor+heatsink/fan. You could always pop a new processor into your old motherboard.

    Intel Socket 478 3.0E Prescott for $81.99
    or
    Intel P4 3.2 Prescott for $89.00

See the links I posted above for the memory, graphics card, and optionally the heatsink/fan if you decide to get the processor. I should also mention that you should look into a new power supply to make sure you have the juice to run the new graphics card. And, make sure that you have adequate cooling. 20mm fans give better cooling than 80mm fans do, and run quieter.

On a side note, you will also get better performance out of running dual channel memory. So I would but 2 of the same sticks for that purpose.

    Hope this helps.

A problem has been detectedand windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time youve seen this error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.

Check to make sure you ahve adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver or check witht he manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adaptors.

Check with hardware vendore for Bios updates. Disable Bios memory such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode.

and when it makes the beep noise the screen blacks then i get a pop up and it looks like its in safe mode.

thats what the blue screen says and when it beeps and freezes

I also forgot that your using your memory for your video card as well. So, that memory is going to video, memory and processor. It might be worth a shot to see if more memory would hold you, but i would not invest any more money into it if you can avoid it.

I don't know what may be causing this and I have no intension to hijack the thread. I'll just mention a problem I have, just in case BEAR's prob is software related.
When i use CyberLink Power DVD player, while connected, the PC freezes right after I close the program. See if you can make something out of it to help BEAR.

also on the blue screen it says this tech info- 0x0000008E (0XC0000005,0XBFAC714B,0XB0BCO99C,0X00000000)

    iamlmdds.dll-address BFAC714B base at BFA2D000 date stamp 00000000

i found this from looking through some things on warcraft support

This problem may occur when a program references an incorrect memory address
