Incorrect MAC address

I've been trying to figure this out for 3 days now and I'm starting to get very frustrated and starting to pull my hair out...

I have an older computer that belongs to my wife and kids. It has an Asus A7N8X-VM Motherboard that has an Nforce 2 chipset on it. I have the original driver CD for the motherboard.

I have a home network with Time Warner Cable using their newer DOCSIS wireless modems, however, for this computer and my main computer I'm connected via CAT-5.

I've formatted this computer several times over the last few days and cannot connect using either Windows XP or Windows 7. I have the same issues with both. I'm using Windows XP right now to ensure it's not a driver issue with 7.

The adapter looks good according to the device manager, I can pull a valid IP address from my modem on /ipconfig however my MAC address is reading 01:23:45:67:89:AB.

Now, the kicker to this is that I can put the latest Ubuntu CD in, run it from CD and connect immediately and pull the real MAC address for the adapter.

I know what you're asking... why don't I just run Ubuntu? Because this system belongs to my wife and kids and they just want to play Bejewelled Blitz and World of Warcraft...

I hope this made sense. Like I said, I'm to the point where I'm very frustrated and angry and really need help.

I was able to solve the issue by downloading a little program I found called Etherchange. It allowed me to change the MAC address on the NIC to what it showed in Ubuntu and came right up after I disabled and re-enabled it.
