I have been desperately trying to convert from IncrediMail to Outlook Express (hmmm... wonder why?). I downloaded IncrediConvert about a month ago and couldn't get it to work. Gave up after considerable frustration. I decided to give it another go around today because I'd really like to be using Outlook Express and free my computer from the tyranny of IncrediMail.

Here's the problem: When I use IncrediConvert, I can check the folders I want to export and then it gives me the option of which folder to store them in. After I select one, I click okay and get an error message every time. What am I doing wrong?

error message: Access Violation at address 0041AD3D in module. IncrediConvert.EXE Read of address 62753B84

I'm offering up my first born child to the person who can help me figure this one out. Or at least my endless gratitude.

I'm using Windows ME so as far as I know, I'm logged in as admin. I'm trying to convert three mail accounts but only 1 at a time. And what I did for the export folder, after I selected the folders to export, I clicked the export button, highlighted Desktop, clicked create new folder and named a new folder exported files on the desktop. When I hit ok I get the error message. Even if I try to use an existing folder I still get the error message. Grrr. It's an Incredimail conspiracy.

The problem is, I can't even get to the converted files stage. As soon as I click ok after selecting exported files folder, I get the error message. IncredConvert isn't even converting the files. It's not letting me do anything with them. See the steps below, I've indicated the step I can't get past.
    • Launch IncrediConvert.
    • IncrediConvert automatically selects your default IncrediMail Identity and all folders except Deleted Items.
      • To convert mail from another identity, select its path under IncrediMail\Data\Identities in the folder tree on the left.
    • Click the Export toolbar button.
    • Highlight Desktop under Select output folder..
    • Click Create new folder.
    • Type "exported mail".
    • Hit Return.
    • Click OK. - I can't get past this step. It's at this step I get an error message!

    • Click Open folder.
    • For every folder inside exported mail:
      • Open the folder by double-clicking it.
      • Press Ctrl-A to select all .eml files.
      • Drag and drop them to the folder in Outlook Express that you want to import them to.
(Make sure you drop the .eml files on the folder in Outlook Express (with Outlook Express open), not the folder in Windows Explorer where Outlook Express keeps mail on your hard disk.)

    Nope. That didn't work either.

I hate to even say this but I did that a few minutes ago. Deleted it and downloaded from Major Geeks. I really hate to give up on this. :(

Yes I can. Just right clicked on my screen and created the folder.

I'm not trying to be difficult, honest I'm not, but what converted files? As far as I can tell, IncrediConvert hasn't converted anything. If it had, where would I see them?

Everything looks good until I get to click okay after the exported mail. I never get to the screen that says #messages saved. Instead, I get the access error. So, basically, it's not letting me convert the files at all. I'm guessing that the problem doesn't lie with IncrediConvert but somewhere else on my computer- somehow, like you said earlier, it's not allowing me access to convert the files.

I'll check the patches but I did try it in safe mode earlier. I'm beginning to think this may not work. That bites.

It seems as though I have all of the updates and patches. Next?

Yes. I'm getting rid of it because it's causing errors on the computer (imagine that) but I have no problem seeing the message, accessing folders, etc. I just want it gone before it crashes the computer.

Okay- I gave up on IncrediConvert. But lest you think that IncrediMail has won, don't worry. I just went ahead and forwarded everything that I wanted to myself and opened it with Outlook. IncrediMail is on it's way out the door :) Thanks so much for all your help- now to get IncrediMail completely cleaned off the computer. I've found the threads with the registry info and will use those before I call for help :) Thanks again for you patience!
