index in vista 64bit

hi all bin stumped today with a problem ive never had befor and was kinda hoping someone here will have the answer im looking for!

the index dosnt seem to be working on my vista 64bit OS when looking for anything recently changed etc, i get a popup telling me that index is not running and to click here to turn on, wich i do of course but it isnt working and nothing happens.
the drive are indext as are the file etc to the best of my knowledge at anyrate.
no amount of faffing in system propperties has any effect also.
when going to advanced index propperties it isnt showing any locations as being indext, and im starting to think that this will be a case of completely wiping and re-installing the OS etc all over again?

can anyone help with this please as if nothing ells would like to know the root of the problem if nothing ells.

thanks for the reply but already tried that it wasnt going to work, since discovered that the index system itself had been somehow curupted and wasnt going to run no matter what.
so have had to re-install the OS, and is now working again.
how ever i would like to thank you for replying to my post.
