Hey! I'm having a large problem with my OS booting start up going into a infinite loop and then to a black screen with cursor. Also, the black screens goes away and starts all over with the start up process.

    Here is the story:

Note: Windows Vista ultimate 64-bit to specify OS

I was reading a book online with looking for info on some playing cards I used to have and then I froze a bit but was able to move the cursor with option to get on the desktop bar. I did a restart on my computer. It started up the process and got to a black screen deleteing and recovering archives and such, as well got a update for a system repair update from windows. After awhile, It got went back to the starting proces again. So, I have been going in a loop trying to find a way to recover and see for a permanent/long term solution, and have tried doing some boot ups and with every option: F8 , Safe mode, etc. on every attempt I got to the black screen with cursor.

If anyone has a solution for this, I'd appreciate it with a response on here on the thread or send an email to Suika231(at)hotmail.com.

A other thing is my start up/system repair disk is a file on my computer,so i have no physical disks of Vista.

Is the cursor a blinking line at the top left or an arrow-type cursor?

On the F8 menu do you have the option to Repair your Computer? Does it find any problems?

No, just the regular arrow which I'm able to move and there is no option to repair with F8 :/

I'm not sure exactly what works on the black screen with moveable cursor.

I think I would try downloading a Vista Recovery Environment ISO which can be burnt to a blank CD/DVD using imgburn's "Write IMAGE File to Disc" option. Guide to burning with imgburn. This would give you a bootable disc with the repair options.

Booting from the disc it will attempt automatic repairs to startup which probably won't be sufficient. But hitting the Next button should get you to Advanced options which will include System Restore. You may be able to restore to a date before the problems occurred. I use Win7 but I think the options are about the same. This guide shows a slightly different sequence of screens to get to the System Restore option which I think is the best option to try first.

Let us know either way. Someone may have other ideas and the boot disc gives you access to the command prompt which can be helpful.

This doesn't sound normal and I'm wondering if it was running chkdsk at startup? If it system restore doesn't work then I think chkdsk c: /r at the command prompt might be a next step to rule out a problem with filesystem corruption. Let's see how things go with system restore.
