    A few quick questions:

    * Is the restore disk one that shipped with the PC when it was new and/or marked for your exact model? If it's a disk from a different e-Machines model it may show as a non-genuine copy since the special code on the disk doesn't recognize the BIOS or motherboard on your PC.

    * Double-check the license # on the Windows hologram sticker. If you made just one typo in entering it this could be the issue.

If all else fails, a page from Microsoft should pop up in your browser with contact information. No guarantees, but if you call Microsoft's activation hotline and explain the situation they may be able to reissue a new license code.

    Hope this helps. :)

There was no sticker on case. Problem arose when I install an additional harddrive, install went smooth as usual, when I tried to boot the boot fail, and after many, many tries I finally contacted emachines and purchased their restore disk, it was supposed to be matched to serial number of my machine. For a while Sunday things seemed to be going right auto-downloaded sp2, and after boot, the ingenuine note disappeared and things went right for a couple of trips to net, then a black screen, unable to boot, solved problem by removing battery for couple of minutes, machine booted but went back into the activation page. Thanks for reply will follow suggestions. Mau

I found the link to order restore discs:

    https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=emachines

You can also e-mail them the model/serial # of the PC and the information printed on the DVD/CD to see if you have the right disc for your model/serial #:

    http://support.gateway.com/emac/options.aspx

(Gateway is also part of Acer; this is the redirect page for eMachine's support questions)

No disrespect to plodr; however if the current disc fully installs and lets you access the Windows desktop I would contact Microsoft first before spending money on a replacement disc. A call to Microsoft explaining the reinstall issue may get you taken care of with a new license code for free; just be sure to have the code on the COA (hologram) sticker handy when you call. If the current restore disc will NOT install you'll have to order one from eMachines.
