Initializing device NVRM: Wndows protection error

Help.

My computer locked up while doing something normal (think I was in Outlook address book). I had to hard-reboot. As it started up again, it got to (i think) the 2nd windows '98 screen, then the screen went blank and showed this error message on otherwise a plain black screen "Error while initializing Device NVMR windows protection error". I have to hard boot to get out of this, and the next start up goes directly to "Safe Mode". It continues to alternate on startup between "Error while initializing Device NVMR windows protection error" and Safe Mode.

Pentium II, 64mg, Windows 98, 8GB


I have downloaded and used your "Adware and Spyware tools" a number of times. I can run "Ad-Adware SE Personal" and "Spybot Search and Destroy" from the Safe Mode and NO errors are found.

So you can only boot into Safe Mode? Is that correct?

Are your data files backed up?

If so, have you tried a scanreg?
