Ink. extension, programs won't work

None of my programs (except Internet Explorer) will work. All program files have Ink. extentions. HELP!

Check everything in the 'Registration Center' and click 'Go'. Dial-A-Fix cannot possibly do any harm to your PC, so feel free to check every box if you want, but the Reg Center is what you need.... Good Luck and keep us posted!

if you go LNK suffix, about 2 weeks ago ,i gave comprehensive details of how to put this right ,using the doug knox fix ,if you get any problems ,report back .

OK, I can download the file-it goes to an ALZip program (one I did not know I have) and when I try to open it, it says "This file does not have an association with it, create association with folder options to open file". Well, I cannot open folder options to do that.... Yea, I'm blonde.....

Save the file as lnk.reg to your desktop

then double click and import it.

Ah! In the "Thread Tools!" And I went hunting everywhere for a stand-alone button....

 

I cannot even get Notepad to open. Have I totally fried my machine? Nothing opens except Internet Explorer. AAARRGGHHHH!

 

I can download all the doug knox fixes for extension repair, even the Major Geek fix, but when it saves to the machine, if converts it to a lnk. and then will not open.

 

Go to start, run and type notepad. See if it opens.

 

Nope, it will not open. I have tried opening notepad from the programs menu also and it still will not work.

 

Ok, step by step.

Open My Computer.
Go to Tools.
Click Folder Options in the menu.
Scroll down the list, and uncheck hide extensions for known filetypes.
Click OK.

Now go to start, run and type:

C:\windows\system32

Click ok.

When the folder opens up, locate notepad.lnk

Right click it and choose rename. Rename it to notepad.exe.

Now, go to start, run and type

notepad

Click OK.

Copy the contents from earlier.

Go to file, save as.

save it as lnk.reg

save it to your desktop.

Go to your desktop, ocate the file.

Double click it.

Say yes to import.

Reboot.
Test results.

 

When I go to My Computer, I can click on Tools, and Folder Options, but nothing is there under Folder Options. Nothing happens when I click on it. As with all the other programs.....

Try it from the control panel then. There is something called folder options.

THANK YOU!!! I was having the same problem, but I had .exe files AND .lnk files out! That should teach me to muck around in my registry (but probably won't) - I had to do some tricks to make the Notepad method work - I had to create a new TXT file on the desktop just to get Notepad open. Importing it didn't work though. I first had to DL the EXE fix, import it, and then do the LNK fix. For some reason FireFox stayed working through all of this as long as I started it from the "Internet" link in the Start Menu... maybe it's time to move to Ubuntu.
