Why should they remove it? A sad and tragic thing happened in Virginia, but that doesn't mean we should all go out and remove any books/movies/whatever about school shootings. Thousands dye by the hand of a criminal every year. Should we remove books about murder mysteries or the tv show Law and Order?

  5. Tescos don't care, as long as they carry on making vast profits. One of their security people told me recently that a loss of over £300,000 is nothing to them. Twunts

Tasteless, maybe. How many terrorism related books were out during 9/11? Now?

Terrorism still continues to this day. The world can't stop turning because of it.

Same thing here. Top that off that its in another country, which makes things somewhat disconnected...

As long as the company makes those Benjamins, they could give a rat's a** about the outside world.

    Exactly,

We might as well say take down every piece of literature, movie, artwork, and any form of expression that depicts a tragic event. I hope you guys like waking around with your eyes closed, and your ears pluged. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.

Yes wrong time to display that book of week, but many of these types of specials have been in the pipeline for weeks, so this may have been chosen weeks ago before the tragic events.

Did you get any reply from your email?

I agree, the book should not be pulled totally off the shelves. But isnt it a bit tasteless to put it on special offer at this time? If it was done before the tragedy then fair enough, but still I dont think they should be plastering it up on posters etc.

I dont think it should be banned, but I dont think it should be put in peoples faces, especially if they have Tescos in America(I havent a clue). Or even here in Scotland where it would have opened up past hurts of what happened to the poor children here.

Post the email addy, I will write a complaint too.

online@tesco.co.uk is the email address, Wayne.

All I am saying regarding their insensitivity, is that they could have delayed the release of this book for a while!

Why? Its a book special that was more then likely preplaned like 3 months ago. Its not gonna do a damn thing, and it doesn't even matter. Its a fictional book.

Tescos is not in America so to expect them to pull it is silly. Did the US pull all related matter from the shelves when Hungerford went down in the UK? I don't think so. And as Colemanguy states, this would have be planned some time ago.

9/11 happened did the usa pull islamic books/terrorist stories from shelves? Nope, and i would consider that a larger tradgey

The book in question has a story which is uncannily like the Virginia Tech story:

Sterling is a small, ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever
happens -- until a student enters the local high school with an arsenal of
guns and starts shooting, changing the lives of everyone inside and out.
    The
daughter of the judge sitting on the case is the state's best witness -- but
she can't remember what happened in front of her own eyes. Or can she? >

This is the description on the book to help the sales. The area in Bold is the area that concerns me.

Its healthy to have such a wide range of opinions on the matter.
    Cheers

Well, if you want to focus on that analogy, it's more like Columbine than Virginia Tech.

I haven't read the book, but judging from the description, it seems that it delves into the lives of those who were affected by the shooting. Might that not be a good thing for people to be reading? Even if it's fiction, it might get people to think more about the far reaching implications of an event like this. I think I'm going to go out and buy it to see what it's about.

You Can Hardly expect them to pull it staight off the shelves, And they shouldn't. But putting it as book of choise / Book of the week , whatever it is. Is just REALY bad timing!

Totally agree with you Mini-Geek, bad timing indeed.

I go further I see in some press that they are now trying to blame this action on various movies!!!!! well great its the cop out way to blame films ( Oldboy a japanese film ) ..... while films can be violent they are not the cause of a persons mentality, its just a easy way to blame/explain! but sadly thats clutching at straws...all crime can be linked to a film of some genre.

Least they aren't blaming it on video games anymore :)
