install basic Vga driver?

hello i am trying to get the sound back onto my acer aspire 3640 laptop.after i took my laptop in for repair my sound has been gone from it. I think the problem may be becausei accidently uninstalled my graphic card drivers when i tried to fix the problem myself when i try to install the again i get a message that says:instalation cannot complete,please install a standard Vga apadter" :cry I do not knowwhat to do anymore all i want is sound back on my laptop can u help me this time please?

 

I assume you are running XP (the model ACER you have came with XP). Check under device manager and see if there are any of those annoying yellow triangles with exclamation points in them - if so, post them here for us.

Also, what does it list as "display adapter" in device manager? While in device manager also check under "System Devices" - you should see lots of entries, including something like "ATI Radeon Xpress 200M" If it doesn't, let us know.

Any more information you have would be helpful. I've got a feeling you may have removed more then just your graphics driver . . .
