Yes, but the restore function when hitting F2 does not work so I use my own Win 8 disk. Win 8 was the original. Yhe computer is freezing and hard to boot so I tried to use my Win 8 disk to re-install after formatting .

When you formatted the disk were you given the choice between NTFS and GPT? Your Win 8 DVD needs NTFS but it would be better to delete all existing disk partitions and then try installing 8 again. The installer will create the partitions it needs.

Thinking on, you may well need a disk management tool to convert that disk to the older MBR layout first rather than its current GPT layout if you still want to install your own Win 8. Unless you are familiar with that sort of thing I would advise against it. Might be better to try to rectify whatever faults it has.

Seems you are not aware that you can reinstall Windows 8 without reinstalling from a disc. It's called a Reset or, if you want to keep your personal files, a Refresh. Many tutorials on the web but here is Microsoft on it -

It does not require any special knowledge.

As long as he hadn't already deleted the Recovery Partition.

If you need to re-initialize your drive to MBR, you can do so using MiniTool Partition Wizard's bootable CD. You'll need to delete ALL partitions on the disk first. You'll also need to go into UEFI/BIOS Setup and switch to Legacy Boot, Secure Boot Disabled, then set Boot order so that the CD/DVD drive is first.

I had to do this with my UEFI/GPT laptop in order to be able to re-install the OEM Windows 8.1 Core and other versions of Windows and be able to multi-boot.

So what did you choose to do, a Reset or conversion to MBR and install from your DVD?

One thing I will say about what I had to do is I had to re-install Win 8.1 Core (I don't know if your Win 8 is Core or Pro) BEFORE I could install Win 8.1 Pro. If I tried to only install Win 8.1 Pro, the UEFI embedded Product Key changed it to Win 8.1 Core. It initially frustrated the heck out of me.
