Install Shield Problems

Can anyone help? Im using xp home, until recently everything was ace untill the other day I cant install anything or uninstall anything. Stuff already on the pc works fine and the pc itself works fine. I started to install doom3 which I have already had on once and took of. and decided I wanted to play it again, it starts to install but after 2hours its still on the 1st disk, so I stop it, it only took 10 minutes for the whole installation last time.

I have updated the ISScript9 but made no difference. Its difficult because I'm not actually getting any specific errors codes to follow up on.

I have done all the usual virus and spyware, malware scans etc all clear. I regulary scan my pc to keep it clean. Even roll backed registery cleaners and tried starting at an earlier system restore point before the probelm but still no good.

I really dont want to go down the windows reinstallation if I can help it.
I just wondered if anyone else has come across this situation.

Sorry I didnt give you machine specs. Amd 64 2.2 ghz, asus K8v se deluxe mb, ati radeon x800 xt pe gfx, audigy 2 pro snd, 1gb ram, 120gb hard drive.

Thx for the info kadavill, done what u said and the installshield website but no difference. I had 1 problem with acquire admin priv section, installshield site says goto Select Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
In the Computer Management dialog, click on System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Users.
Right-click on your user name and select Properties.
In the properties dialog, select the Member Of tab and make sure it states "Administrator".

under the system tools I don't have the 'local users and groups' option.

When I go to uninstall anything tro add/remove programs I get setup launcher as encountered a problem and will now close.

 

Did you try it in a new user account?

 

Make sure the logged in user has administrative privilege.
Control panel>user accounts......

Also try some installation in safe mode.
Press f8 while booting to get into safe mode.

 

Hi, yep I have full admin priv. Its the only user account I have on my pc.

Looks like I might just have to go for the repair install (Shudder)

I thought I had fixed the problem, as I went to Uninstall Farcry from my pc. Everything went along as it should, appeared to uninstall fine, untill I looked at my D:\ which is where I install all my games, the b***** pc has wiped clean the whole drive.. nothing left at all. OMG I'm Pis*** of.

 

I've heard of this major bug in the past. Where you install a program in a location that is not default, and the uninstallation of this program wipes out everything.

Firefox had this bug awhile back before they release 1.0.
