Install Xbuntu On A Mac Mini From A Usb Stick?

Hello I am trying to install xbuntu on a 2014 mac mini as its too slow but when I look at startup choice I only see the hard drive and not the usb stick?
Running Monterey.
I tried alt,control and r on a windows keyboard but it just boots normally.
Any ideas please would be helpful.

it would be better if you have an apple keyboard.
then, when you turn on the mac mini, press and hold the "option" key until a boot menu shows up.
it should then list all of the attached devices that you can boot from.
then, once installed, you can go back to the windows keyboard.
but you would need an apple keyboard, initially, just so you can press and hold the "option key' to get the boot menu.

Thank you,I did have a cd burner but I can't find it so I have ordered a new one,I will burn a cd and try booting from the cd.
