install xp pro

    i am trying to install winxp. it says that i can format the drive and it says that there isnt enough space on the drive.... i have an IBM t23 PIII 1.13 256mb

    What size hard drive is it?

    Per MicroSoft the absolute minium is 1.5Gig free on a 2 Gig partition (book answer). Its better to have about 10 Gig free so it will work properly.

    xp install not workin

    i am in fdisk because i need to format.... now do i have to format because it says windows has no space to install.... i cant creat a partition so should i delete "Partition 1 status a type ntfs megabtes 28616 usage 100 percent" i need to get this computer running i am on microsofts site also looking around...

    With XP, boot from the CD, select the proper primary partition, then format it NTFS quick. I cant tell you what drive to remove unless I see them all and even then it might be some guess work. If you have a 60 gig drive, it will usually list something like 55000 as the size, for example. Theres very little reason to be using FDISK unless your in DOS because you have 98 or an older operating system. XP makes it fairly easy to do.

    Are you sure that you aren't trying to install in a pre-existing used partition?

    Delete any partition, then create a primary partition, then format and install.

    There are stickies here and various threads on how to install XP. (Sorry, I'm in a rush)
