Installation of scanner

I am trying to install a Canon Canonscan 8400F. I followed the instructions (several times); instlltion the software first then hooking up the scanner. I kep getting the "gound New Hardware Wizard", which keeps stating:

"An error occured dueing the installation of the device
The required section was not found in the the INF"

The device will not even show up in the device manager with an "!".

If it is a usb scanner uninstall the device then beforew anything restart windows hook up the scanner and when it says search for suitable driver if windows cannot find one then install the one from the cd you got with the hardware and if that doesnt work then go to the cannon website and search support to see if that has been a common error good luck.

There was no scanner to uninstall. I remove all the folders and files and downloaded three files to remove driver, add driver and toolbox. I followed these instructions several times. No Luck. I cannot understand why it worked without a hitch on one partition with XP Home and not on another with XP Pro. Canon is stumped.
