Installation problem

Recently deleted everything on an old hard drive.(disk Management, delete partition, then a full reformat.
Installed into its own machine and trying to install XP Pro onto the drive.
Goes only so far then stops with a blue screen.
Message is:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

How can this be happening on a fresh format and new install?

Move this to Software if you would,please.
Obviously a Software problem,because 2000 Pro went onto the very same hard drive with no problems.

 

Have already been to that page,lancelot.
