Try installing drivers for it. Also, software should have come with your package on a cd.

Take the CDROM or CDR-W uniit out of your computer. On the back are some jumper settings. The factory default is usually slave "SL". change on of the CD drives to master "MA".

If both your CD-RW and CDROM drives are on slave and on the same IDE channel (i.e. IDE 1 or IDE2), then you won't be able to access both at once.

I'm all with you Phantom, my guess is that the jumpers are untouched, though I must say I belive they're on Master, not Slave :D

You should have a map of jumper settings somewhere on the CD/CDRW drive, just set the jumpers as the map says, making (in your case) CDROM as slave and CDRW as master.

The reason why the factory default is usually, but not always, set at slave from the factory is to try and make it as foolproof as possible. Nearly always people have their C drives set to master. The idea being, I suppose that someone can just connect up the CD device without touching anything. The catch is, most of us like to have more than one CD device, nowadays.

Having said that, I've installed burners that were set at master by factory default. It's not a biggie, like you said; one only has to look at the thing.
