it could simply be that your new RAM doesnt like the motherboard much. make sure its seated properly, and if there is a BIOS update available, be sure you know how to BIOS flash and give it a shot. Many BIOS updates fix RAM incompatibilities or problems.

also, is it a standard mouse? or does it use special drivers? if it does, you may try uninstalling/reinstalling them.

Is it only the mouse that freezes? or a small system lock-up?

yes, it can be an incompatibility, especially if you're using an intel 865/875 motherboard. have you tried putting the old stick of ram back?

ok, the mouse is an optical mouse, by micro-innovations....and i havent tried reinstalling the drivers, but that is easy, and will try that...
as for the cmos flash thing, not sure i know how to do it, as i am sure i could really screw things up pretty well.....:)
it did not lock-up at all with the old ram, just with the newer 256mb ddr ram...will try your suggestions and get back to ya

it appears as though the ram was not seated properly....I switched the ram sticks between slots and reinstalled, then all is fine...
thanks for all the help guys....mucho appreciated..

pc-chips mobo, let me just say this,... yuck....
i do not like it, and their support website is archaic at best...and their support staff are the worst i have ever seen or talked with...I would not go that route again, at any price....
BTW-just got an ASUS mobo, which i didnt get the chance to install yet, but very soon i hope...
just the rom flashing has me a bit worried, as i have never done so before...
everything else is pretty much straight forward...
(why dont they just sell a chip to put in place of old chip, would be so much easier for those of us who arent comfortable flashing)

they do actually, but they are extermely hard to come by and are probably expensive, so its not at all worth it.

dont be too intimidated by flashing the BIOS, its not as hard as it seems as long as you have the correct BIOS image.

which ASUS board did you get?

many of the new boards compress the BIOS flash utility onboard, so you'd simply need the BIOS image on a floppy and you'd be set. Also, there are BIOS flashing utilities from ASUS, Abit, and MSI (i'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I have personally used) that will let you flash through Windows. Only once has that been enough of a change that i needed a reformat afterward.

no need to flash the bios though. so don't worry about it.

it was for his old board and the possible memory incompatibility... but if hes got it sorted out then i agree, leave the BIOS alone

new update to mouse problem, which it seems is NOT related to ram at all,
rather it is the cord, getting bent, has frayed the wiring inside the cord, causing intermittant interruptions in mouse movement....time to get a new mouse i suppose, but i hate spending more money....hehe....wireless mice any good, or just go wth a same type, optical mouse?
    any ideas?
