Installed new nVidia Drivers and poof

I have a GeForce 7600 GT (256m) PCIe video card. I am running Windows XP Home on an AMD 3800+

Wife unit got me a 22inch CTL monitor for my birthday.

Hooked it up. Worked fine, but, I couldn't get a stable resolution past 1600x1200.

So I decided to upgrade the video drivers. (I was using a 2006 release from nVidia's website). I downloaded the newest driver version, Sept 2007. I uninstalled the old driver and rebooted windows. Installed the new driver, everything seemed to be fine. On the final reboot I get the Windows XP logo and the little blue line that slides across the screen as it loads up.

Then the monitor says no Input, and the screen goes blank. Poof, nothing. (I can use keyboard shortcuts to run things, so I know Window is running).

I did a system recovery (you know, cheap box comes with XP pre-loaded on a separate partition) and it restores the system to in the box driver status. It saves the data and programs installed though.

So I figured maybe I had a bad driver download. Redownloaeded it, did it again with the same result. Redid the recovery, and installed the old drivers.

It is still doing it with the old drivers....

Any ideas???

 

Ok, so I "think" I know what is happening.

When Windows reboots, it changes the screen resolution. It changes so much that the monitor says it there is no signal in range.

If I hook up a 19inch monitor, I can see again.

So for now....

Screen resolution no higher than 1600x1200.

I am hoping a CTL driver might help.

 

You should have got the cd with the monitor, better check your box. ed
