I installed new RAM and I am getting the error
"Primary hard disk drive 0 not found"
"Primary hard disk drive 1 not found"

Not sure what I did wrong. I thought this process was suppose to be easy

    Any suggestions?

Er, you'll need to be more specific for the folks to help you. What type of ram was it? is it a replacement or additional? is it compatible with your motherboard? do you get the same message when you take the new ram out... help us out a bit.

I'm adding an additional 1 GB and leaving in my old 256. I think it's the HD because in the setup screen it's saying that my harddrive 1 and harddrive 2 are "unknown" devices. The RAM i put in was: Dell Dimension 8250 1GB (2x 512MB) RDRAM RAM - which is compatable with my PC.

is the new ram the same speed as the 256 stick? it needs to be compatible with your pc and the other memory you're using (sorry if you already knew that).

were the hard drives working before you put the new memory in? have you changed bios options? they may have returned to default when there was a problem with the memory.

I'm not sure if the RAM speed is the same. I thought that w/different RAM speed that it even if there was faster RAM, that my RAM would just be as fast as the slowest RAM.

Also I don't have 256 stick, it's 128 + 128. I'm thinking I might take out the new RAM and see if my comp boots up. I'll tell you what happens.

    Thanks for the help,

    Mike

It also recognizes the RAM because in the BIOs the system memory is now 1280 MB RDRAM.

I'm not sure of the rule, but in my experience the speed had to be the same or my pc wouldn't boot. it's a wierd coincidence for the hdd to give out just as you're changing the components. if the problem is the old ram, flog it on ebay. I sold my old memory for £5 less than i paid for it new.

I figured out what was wrong. I guess something on one of my harddrives became unplugged in some process that I was doing. I plugged it back in. The only problem I have now, is that my secondardy hard disk drive 1 is not found. What is this drive anyways? If I turn it off, everything seems to work fine.

doesn't that refer to a second physical disk? if you don't have two hard drives then i wouldn't worry.
