I am not sure what you are asking. Do you have two copies of XP-Pro on one computer? As far as a new copy of XP-Pro, do you have the XP-Pro cd?

You can either use the CD to repair your current installed copy of XP-Pro (which will maintain most, if not all, of your files), or you can use the cd to reformat (which will remove all of your information).

It would probably be better to explain what type of problem you are having first. We may be able to help you. If you do not have the XP-Pro cd you will have to do one of two things; 1. Contact your computer manufacturer and request a copy, or 2. buy another copy.

i do have a xp-pro cd and i want to loose everything (i have it saved on another computer) and just start a new windows, which has only one Local Disk( C: ).

All you have to do is put the CD in the drive, restart your computer, and start tapping (I think it will be F8 for a dell, and F12 for a compaq) until you come to the boot menu. Change the settings so that your CD Drive is listed as the first boot device. Save and exit. Your computer should then boot to the XP cd and you can reformat the existing partition (which will remove everything) and start to load a fresh copy of XP-Pro. If you are using a Dell computer, do not do anything to the other partition, it is a recovery partition. Good luck and let us know if you have any problems.:)

No problem, when you come to the screen that shows the partition, delete C:. You will then be able to create a new partition and state how large you want it to be.

If I had a penny for every problem someone in here had to put up with from me, I would own the internet. Not a problem at all. The last post should help a little more.

Are you sure you only have one partition listed? What type of system are you running?

u know the Boot to cd in the link that u gave me? i'm not getting there and i don't know how. my system has 2.8GHz CPU, 480 MB of RAM, Intel Pentium 4. If i can only learn how to set it to Boot to cd, that would be awesome

Who is the manufacturer, Dell/Compaq? Did you build it?

When you restart your computer, the manufacturers logo usually comes up. When that screen comes up tell me everything that is listed on it.

That makes it more fun then. When you reboot, as soon as you hear the hard drive come to life, start tapping the F8 key. If that does not take you there try again using the F12 key. I am going to go searching to see what I can find. I am accustomed to manufactured PC's. Not sure how different it can be, but I will find out. Try the F8 and F12 key.

This link is a bit more thorough, give it a try and I will see what I can find.

That can vary. You are looking for a list of your bootable devices.

It will list your hard drive, your floppy drive (assuming you have one), your CD Drive(s).

I do not mean to bail on you, but I have to head off to work. Keep posting and someone will jump in, I will check back when I get to work.

    Need Help Installing Windows Xp!!!

ok , i want a fresh and new windows xp which contains nothing from the previous windows xp. i get to the first blue screen in this link, http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm , but instead of that mine says, C: Patition [NTFC] 39998 MB ( 32911 MB free)
    Unpartitioned space 74497 MB

My overall hard is about 114 GB and i know that i need to delete C: in order to start a new partition but i can't delete C: because it says that some of the temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation are in C: . so i can't delete it and everytime that i click enter on C: it starts a new Windows Xp but with C only 40GB and containing some of the old files from the last windows. i want the C: to be 114GB and containing nothin from the last windows. i would really appreciate the help. i'm really desperate for an answer. thx

As earlier you were able to enter the Bios by pressing DEL at boot, do so again and yes the Bios screens are generally blue in colour, once into the Bios pages, navigate to Advanced and you should see the Boot lists, just add your CD drive as the 1st boot device, then hit F10 to save/exit (pop your CD in the drive) and follow the instructions that Computerrouter linked you too earlier.
