installing a sound card

I'm trying to install a Dynex DX-SC51 sound card (pci) And my computer is not recognizing the sound card. I'm almost positive i instailled it correctly but the metal foldy over thing has a few centimeters and doesnt go all the way down(part with the scew). But I could screw it in and was all connected. Any way i'm not a computer star or anything but what am I over looking or do wrong.

Two things come to mind. First, all other "sound devices" must be disabled. If you have had "onboard" sound you must first enter the BIOS/CMOS setup screens and de-select the sound device. Then re-boot the computer. If Windows still doesn't see the "new device" you will have to install the device drivers for your Dynex DX-SC51. They usually come on a CD with the device. my OS is an windows XP. but how do i get to that screen.

 

When you restart your computer, you will be able to hit the "Del" key or "Delete" key or the F2 key. It depends on the manufacturer of your BIOS chip. This is immediately after your computer flashes the keyboard LEDs(lights) and before the Windows loading screen. If you see the Windows screen it's too late. Then hit the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys simultaneously, for another re-boot. There will be several pages of settings that you can change. If you have it, On-Board sound will be on one of those pages.
