    Hi all

    I am really a newbie and after some help and guidance. Specifically to help set up my new sata 3 WD caviar black 1tb HD (WD1002FAEX). I am pretty confident I haven't done it correctly and to further add to my suspicions, the machine randomly locks up on window 7 startup screen.
    For starters, is there any specific BIOS setting I need to be aware of? I have the HD physically connected to a sata3 port and it is working, windows 7 (64bit) is installed. However;
    1. after installing WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics, I am getting a "FAIL" on the SMART status which makes me think something is wrong (see attached pic). I ran a full diagnostics and the HD passed.
    2. the disk controller as per hard drive sentinel is "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller (ATA)" (see attached pic) - does this sound correct? This is different to my old sata hard driver which uses Intel 5 Series/3400 Series SATA Controller.
    3. What is a "ATA Checksum Value", hard drive sentinel is reporting the result as Invalid? (see attached pic)
    I don't believe it is set up correctly thus giving me mixed bag results? Can someone please help or point me in the direction of a guide to install sata3 drives so I can review and compare to my set up?

    Thanks alot.

    What is the make and model of your machine?
    It may not be set to handle SATA3.

    Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    On the following Gigabyte page, I noticed the caveat about installing the Marvell Console Driver before installing the Marvell RAID Utility - don't know if it applies to your situation, but it's worth looking at (there are also other drivers/manuals there - might come in handy).

    Thanks mate, I have had a look on the website and updated the PC with all the latest mobo drivers. As I only have 1 HD, RAID is not applicable?

    Never did figure it out wdman, ended up running it on the sata2 port. Sorry buddy :( If you end up finding a solution please share.
    Thanks

    lol :p

    Actually I did the same thing. I tried on sata 3 but, the system was unreliable. It is slower running on sata2, but i think that it is safer. The hd sentinel went insane when i was running on sata 3. Switch to sata2 and... problem solved :p
