hello, a quick question, I am trying to install an e-vga video card into a pc-chips m922lu motherboard with an agp slot, and when i try to install it, all i get is a blank black screen.
If i pull htis card out and put in a pci card, all works just fine, but when i try to install the agp card, the nothing but a black screen, and nothing else
    any help would be appreciated...
(already tried looking for mobo updates, as well as agp drivers, no luck)

pc-chips are known to make very cheap shotty motherboards, but i dont think thats your problem.

first, uninstall all video card drivers., if you had an ATi previously, you might want to check the drivers section here for a catalyst removal tool.

power off, and put the new card in. enter your BIOS, and make sure it its set to initiate the AGP slot first (your options should be primary VGA: PCI or AGP)

i dont think you had onboard video before, but if you did, make sure to turn it off in the BIOS.

now boot to windows, and proceed with driver installation.

tried that, still getting a blank screen.....no post or anything...

the comp just sitting there power is on, hd churnin as usual, just the monitor wont initialize...
ran the evga syscan, it reports NO AGP drivers installed....tried to install the VIA 4in1 agp drivers, and it fails....I've tried to uninstall, then update the drivers, power down, restart, enter cmos, make sure agp is primary video device, agp aperature set to 64 or 128, save settings, power down....remove pci card, power down again....install agp card, powerup and blammo, NADA....no monitor signal...nuttin
so i power down, remove agp card, reinstall pci card....all is fine with pci but not agp...
    Arghhhhhhh
can u tell i am frustrated yet?
thanks for any advice you can give

boot problems arent driver related, those dont come into play until the OS loads.

when there is a bad AGP card, the system shouldnt even power up (in my experience)

have you tried clearing the BIOS and then putting the card in and seeing if your system will POST?

also, when the monitor wont initialize, do you hear the POST beep?

if simple things wont work, you're looking at a hardware problem. try another AGP card if possible, or try your card in another computer (just let it POST so you dont have to worry about corrupting existing drivers... then power off before the OS loads)

It's entirely possible the video card is rated for a different voltage than your motherboard's AGP port can supply.

Is the AGP slot clean? Are the card contacts clean? Blow them out and see if it helps.

computer posts just fine as long as this particular agp card isnt inserted onto the agp port...I'll have to get my hands on another agp card and see if that is the problem...

thanks for all the replies everyone, much appreciated....i'll let ya know what happens if anything
(could just be a dead card i suppose)

That's just what I was going to suggest. :) Also, try that card in another computer if you can. See if it does the same thing.

well, i installed the vid card into an asus p4s8x and it works just fine on powerup...except the os wont load, but that is another area i wont get into on this thread, so it's not the vid card....
i believe it is the power rating of the card, which the pcchips mobo cant or wont handle....so thanks to alll who replied

well, I must say, most unhappily that I do agree with you on the PCCHIPS motherboard issue....
upon reflection, i only wish i had done research into this manufacturer BEFORE I purchased my mobo from them....kinda makes me wanna send it to them in a melted down heap, as that is all it is currently worth....
so all of you who may consider a pcchips motherboard, please reconsider...that may make a small impression on their ethics and quality of products.(yes, the tech support which took two weeks to reply, even said they knew about the problems, and that I should flash my bios or buy a better motherboard-from them no less)
