Installing another 256 memory stick

Hi all,
So the pc is still freezing at stupid times, even some of the games in the arcade will do it!
Have upgraded flash and shockwave, didn't help.
Bought another 256MB today, which will take me up to 512MB, hope this will work.
If it doesn't do you think this will narrow it down to being a video card problem? I was going to buy the Radeon card for $50, but the guy at the store said to try this first.(Not one of the fast ones, want to check here first)
This problem is getting old real fast and to be honest I'm not hopeful.

Presently 256MB memory, upgrading to 512.

 

Win2K should run OK on 256 Meg of ram, but will be a bit happier with 512, but that's not likely your problem. Inline Flash games aren't intensive enough to strain the systems.

What all is crashing besides Flash games? And what video card do you have now? Sounds like an ongoing problem. Did this just crop up or has it always been a problem? What all have you done so far to fight it?

I installed the new 256MB so now I should have 512, but it is reading it as 384. I think I need to put them in order highest to lowest.
Yes this has always been a problem, but sporadic. Certain sites will always freeze and others may or may not. The video card is an ATI 3D RAge Pro Turbo, 8mb. I was looking at a new one but don't want to put in the money if it was just memory. (I am at work so short on specs, sorry)
