installing another OS on ps3

I wish to install ubuntu linux on my ps3. The ps3 is the older fatter version and the cd rom does not work. (80gb) the system software is 3.60

I found some of these links. You will have to Google for older firmware. Not sure if you can put older firmware on a drive with newer firmware.
